inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Golkar Party Faction, Soedeson Tandra, disagrees with the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) proposal that the Indonesian National Police (INP) institution be returned under the Indonesian National Military (TNI) institution or the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Member of Commission III Soedeson emphasized that this step is not in line with the principles of modern democracy and the spirit of reform.
"Regarding the police institution being placed back under the TNI institution, of course I don't agree, I don't agree," said Soedeson on Friday (11/29/2024).
He explained that military law has fundamental differences with civil law, so it is not appropriate for INP to be placed under the military institution.
Soedeson also emphasized that INP is part of the executive and has the duty to enforce the law.
Furthermore, he also rejected the proposal for INP to be under the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to him, the function of the police as an extension of the president in law enforcement is very different from the duties of the Ministry of Home Affairs which focuses on domestic government administration.
"It's very different, you know. So don't mix it up," continues Soedeson.
He considered the proposal to be contrary to the spirit of reform that had changed the Indonesian government into a civil government.
He reminded that problems within INP should not be resolved with the wrong steps.
"There is a saying that if there is a mouse in the rice field, don't burn the rice field. That would be strange. We catch the mouse," said Commission III Member Soedeson.
He added that if we wanted to improve the Police institution, what we should do is strengthen the system.
"Well, the police are not all bad, don't be like that. There are also good ones. What we have to push for is strengthening the system, improving education, and so on," said Commission III Member Soedeson.
