Inp.polri.go.id – Jayapura. Held in Obhe Reay May, Criminal Investigation Unit of Jayapura Sub-regional Police held a press release to uncover the arson case of Ministry of Religion of Jayapura branch office, Building A of Regent Office, and a unit of excavator in Kemiri Sentani street. The press release, led by Jayapura Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Fredrickus W.A Maklarimboe, determined A.R or also known as Arki (22) as the arson case. Arki himself, report the police, is still a college student of undisclosed university. “The suspect, A.R or also known as Arki, is a college student year 2018. His address keeps changing which proved a challenge for our investigators,” says Fredrickus. Fredrickus adds that AR is suspected to have a link with Sentani West Papua National Committee (KNPB) and carries his role as KNPB militant in Jayapura city. “The arson, using tires as its medium, has the motives of his disappointment with government policies, although he did not disclose if its central government, provincial government, or local government,” adds Fredrickus. Jayapura Sub-regional Police Chief detailed that the arrest conducted on November 4th, 2023 at a rented house behind BTN Ceria of Dobonsolo, Sentani District, Jayapura by joint team of Jayapura Sub-regional Police, Papua Regional Police, and task force. “From AR closed examination result, AR admits that he did burned the offices, but we suspect there are others who commit the arson and currently we are investigating this case further,” Fredrickus says. According to reports, various burnings in Jayapura in these recent months has been done by the suspect. AR, says Fredrickus, would be charged with Article 187 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, with maximum imprisonment of 12 years in prison.
