inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi stressed that Human Metapneumovirus Virus (HMPV) will not cause death.

Budi assures the public to not worry with HMPV as the virus is not a new variant just like the previous Covid-19.

He explains that HMPV can only be considered dangerous to the body who did not have the immunity and cannot fend-off the virus.

His party has also checked historical data related to HMPV cases. Based on several sources he obtained, no deaths were found.

"HMPV almost does not cause death. I have checked the latest data, and everything shows that 100 percent of patients returned home safely," explained the Minister of Health, on Wednesday (1/9/2025).

He said the increase in cases in China is common from December to January. Similar things are seen in countries with four seasons. However, the main cause of the increase in cases in China is not the HMPV virus, but Influenza H1N1.

"The increase in cases is not caused by HMPV, so there is misinformation," said the Minister of Health.
