Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A joint statement by the leaders of Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia has issued on Saturday (18/11/2023) a strong call for an immediate, durable and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire in the Palestinian Gaza Strip during the 30th APEC Leaders' Meeting in San Francisco.
The statement underscored the urgent need to end hostilities and address the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, antaranews.com reported.
The leaders expressed deep concern about the escalating human suffering in Gaza and underscored the broader global impact of war and armed conflict. They referred to the resolution on Israeli aggression adopted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League during the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit and reaffirmed its importance.
The joint statement called for the continued and uninterrupted supply of essential goods and services to the civilian population in the besieged Gaza Strip. The leaders underlined their belief that lasting solutions to the conflict between Palestine and Israel can only be achieved through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions.
Crucially, the leaders call for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with Palestine having control of East Jerusalem as its seat of government. The pre-1967 borders, also known as the Green Line, are the lines of demarcation established by the 1949 armistice agreements.
The statement was issued in response to the deteriorating conditions of over two million people in Gaza, trapped by a crippling Israeli blockade, and highlights Israel's obstruction of basic necessities, leading to severe shortages of food, medicine and fuel. Hospitals in the enclave have stopped operating due to a lack of fuel.
