Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has achieved diesel self-sufficiency following the inauguration of the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Tuesday (13/1/2026).

The project was officially launched by President Prabowo Subianto a day earlier in East Kalimantan.

Speaking at the Road to Jakarta Food Security Summit, Minister Airlangga said the upgraded refinery now allows domestic production to fully meet national diesel demand, eliminating the need for imports.

“With the RDMP inaugurated by the President, Indonesia no longer needs to import diesel,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The Balikpapan RDMP, operated by state energy ocmpany PT Pertamina, is the country’s largest refinery modernization project, with a capacity of up to 360,000 barrels per day. It is expected to strengthen energy security, improve fuel quality to Euro V standards, and reduce import spending.

The government views the project as a key milestone toward broader energy independence and downstream industrial development.
