Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government has officially introduced two regulations on the handling, utilization, and export of kratom to enhance the marketability and value of the plant, the Ministry of Trade announced on Monday (9/9/2024).
"Kratom exports must adhere to established standards to boost their value and ensure legal certainty," Director General of Foreign Trade Isy Karim said, as quoted by antaranews.com..
The new rules require kratom exports to meet specific standards, including being free from microbiological contamination, heavy metals, and adulteration. However, these regulations apply solely to exports and do not govern domestic use.
One regulation details the prohibited types and sizes of kratom products for export, while the other sets requirements for exporters and the permissible product forms and sizes.
Kratom, a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, has been used traditionally for centuries as a stimulant and pain reliever in countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea.
The regulations are designed to increase export quality and prevent misuse.
