Inp.polri.go.id - Balikpapan. Indonesia will stop importing jet fuel starting in 2027 as part of a broader push toward energy self-sufficiency, the government announced on Monday (12/1/2026) during the inauguration of the Balikpapan refinery upgrade in East Kalimantan.
“By 2027, we expect jet fuel imports to end. Going forward, Indonesia will only import crude oil, in line with the President’s directive,” Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said, as cited by antaranews.com.
The policy was unveiled in Balikpapan, where President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project operated by state-owned Pertamina. The $7.4 billion project increases refinery capacity from 260,000 to 360,000 barrels per day and upgrades fuel quality to Euro V standards.
The government also plans to stop importing certain diesel fuels in 2026 while expanding domestic refining facilities. Officials say the move will reduce reliance on fuel imports, strengthen energy security, and support Indonesia’s long-term economic resilience.
