Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Brigadier General Kristomei Sianturi, the Head of the Army Information Department and representative of the Indonesian Army's Chief of Staff, has formally issued an apology for a recent incident of torture allegedly perpetrated by Army soldiers in Papua. The incident gained widespread attention after circulating on various social media platforms. According to a report by antaranews.com, General Kristomei announced that the actions, reportedly carried out by soldiers from Infantry Battalion 300/Brawijaya, will undergo a thorough investigation. In response to the incident, General Maruli Simanjuntak, the Army Chief of Staff, has instructed the Army's Military Police to conduct an inquiry. General Kristomei emphasized the Army's adherence to regulations and reiterated that torture during interrogation processes is not tolerated and constitutes a violation of the law. "The Army provides its soldiers with SOPs, rules of engagement, and military law to ensure compliance during their duties and operations," he said, referring to standard operating procedures. Despite Infantry Battalion 300/Brawijaya's service in Papua over the past nine months, including recognition from the Dani Tribe and commendations from the Regent of Puncak, General Kristomei regretted that this incident has tarnished their reputation. The Army has initiated an inquiry into a video depicting the alleged abuse of a man by multiple men in Papua. The footage showed the suspects assaulting a bound and injured man inside a drum. One of the individuals appears to be a soldier, as indicated by the prominent emblem of Infantry Battalion 300 on his shirt. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
