Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Ibu, located on Halmahera Island in North Maluku, erupted on Monday (25/23/2024), sending a towering plume of volcanic ash 2.5 kilometers into the sky. Axl Roeroe, stationed at the Mount Ibu Observation Post of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), detailed that the eruption commenced at 6:19 PM local time and lasted approximately 3 minutes and 7 seconds, with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters. Describing the scene, Roeroe said that the ash column, appearing gray in color, drifted westward in dense concentrations, as documented by antaranews.com. He highlighted the rumbling sounds generated by the eruption, audible from the Mount Ibu Observation Post, indicating its intensity. The authorities issued advisories urging vigilance, particularly regarding potential volcanic mudflows in rivers originating from Mount Ibu. Residents within a two-kilometer radius are advised to refrain from activities in the vicinity. According to PVMBG data, Mount Ibu ranked as Indonesia's second most active volcano in 2023, with a recorded total of 21,100 eruptions, underscoring the ongoing volcanic activity in the area. Currently, Mount Ibu holds a Level II classification, denoted as "Waspada" (Alert), necessitating precautionary measures. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
