During a press conference held on Wednesday (3/5/23) at the Jayakarta Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesian government reveals the rationale behind President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's decision to select Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara as the location for the 42nd ASEAN Summit, which is scheduled to take place on May 9-11.
"There is a reason why the President Jokowi chose Labuan Bajo," said Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G Plate as reported by CNN Indonesia.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani further emphasized that Labuan Bajo is one of the government's top priority destinations currently under development.
"With this event, we hope to promote not only Bali but also many other high-quality destinations outside of Bali, including Labuan Bajo," she said.
Moeldoko, the Chief of Staff of the Executive Office of the President (KSP), highlighted that Indonesia's successful experience in hosting the G20 could serve as a valuable reference for the upcoming event.
"We had already meticulously planned for the G20, and thank God it turned out to be a success. Our experience in hosting the G20 has equipped us to handle crowded and critical situations quickly and effectively," he said.
Following the handover of the G20 presidency to India, Indonesia was chosen to host both the 42nd ASEAN Summit in May and the 43rd ASEAN+ Plus Summit in September.
