Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Navy plans to establish two new fleet commands to strengthen the country’s maritime defense, Navy Head of Information Center Rear Admiral Tunggul confirmed on Monday (3/11/2025).
“There is indeed a plan to form two new fleets based on the defense concept of major islands and strategic archipelagos,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com.
Under the plan, Fleet Command IV will be based in East Kalimantan and Fleet Command V in Ambon, expanding the Navy’s total to five commands. Each will be supported by warships and logistics units operating within designated maritime zones.
The Navy also plans to form 15 Maritime Regional Commands and modernize its fleet with advanced, technology-based vessels to enhance operational capability across the archipelago.
The initiative aligns with the Optimum Essential Force (OEF) framework, part of Indonesia’s 2025–2029 national defense plan.
