Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo highlighted a commitment to employing a humanistic approach for hostage release cases, such as the rescue of Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens.

Speaking at a press conference in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/9/2024)), he emphasized the importance of this strategy.

“While the police have the authority to take action as protected by law, we always prioritize a humanistic approach,” Chief Sigit said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He asserted that the release of Philip was due to effective collaboration between the police and the military.

“Using a soft approach—through diplomacy and dialogue—leads to better outcomes,” Chief Sigit added.

Captain Mehrtens, a New Zealander, had been released recently after being held captive by armed criminal groups led by Egianus Kogoya since 7 February 2023.
