inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) appreciates President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for the suspension of detention of their student with the initials SSS, who was previously arrested due to uploading a meme of Prabowo and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"ITB expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, INP Chief, the Vice Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), and the Chairperson of Commission III of DPR," said ITB's Director of Communication and Public Relations Nurlaela Arief as quoted in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/13/2025).

Nurlaela Arief ensured that ITB would provide guidance and education to the student so that similar actions would not be repeated. In addition, she also expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the Chair of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives

"We also express our gratitude to the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and Technology, the Association of Parents of Students (IOM), the Lawyer Team, the ITB Student Family (KM ITB), ITB Alumni, media colleagues, and the wider community who helped oversee this process," said Nurlaela.

She said ITB would continue the process of academic and character development for the person concerned following the suspension of detention received by SSS from the police.

She explained that ITB is committed to educating, assisting and fostering their students. ITB, she said, will teach their students to become a responsible adult, upholding manners and ethics in expressing opinions and expressing themselves.

As part of the educational efforts, ITB will strengthen digital literacy, legal literacy and ethics of communication in various media, including by holding open discussions, public lectures, and coaching programs involving peers, experts and lecturers.

"This is expected to enrich students' insight into constructive freedom in the digital era," she said.

She ensured that ITB will continue to encourage the entire academic community to make the incident a shared reflection. She said that freedom of expression is the right of every citizen, but must be carried out with responsibility, understanding of the law, and respect for the rights and dignity of others.
