Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Armed Criminal Group (KKB) launched an attack on the Ilaga Traditional Market in Puncak District, Central Papua Province, confirmed Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police. A civilian named Lukman Ahmad (32) became a victim of the shooting incident. Providing details, he revealed that the victim sustained a grievous gunshot wound that traversed from his cheek to the back of his head. Police Assistant Superintendent I Nyoman Punia, The Chief of Puncak Sub-Regional Police, stated the sequence of events unfolded at approximately 18.40 Indonesian Eastern Time. The victim was going about his business at his kiosk when suddenly, he found himself thrust into the line of fire. Echoes of gunshots pierced the air, accompanied by the ominous sound of approaching footsteps. In swift succession, he became the target of gunfire from a short-barreled weapon, leaving him critically injured. In the immediate aftermath, the sound of gunshots prompted a rapid response from the joint Indonesian Military-Indonesian National Police (INP) forces. The victim was discovered, wounded and bleeding from his head, yet miraculously conscious. However, the assailant had managed to fled the scene, despite a thorough search of the area by security forces. The victim was evacuated to the Ilaga District General Hospital for essential medical attention. Simultaneously, another alarming incident unfolded as reports emerged of a fire ravaging the Rice Warehouse owned by the Puncak Local Government. This fire was accompanied by the sound of pistol shots, suspected to have originated from the same firearm used in the initial shooting. "The joint forces are currently maintaining tight security around the Ilaga District General Hospital and patrolling around Ilaga Town. We are also conducting an investigation to identify the perpetrators and the motives behind these two incidents," the police chief said. With the situation's volatility in mind, the joint forces are working cohesively to maintain control. As uncertainty lingers around the Ilaga Traditional Market Complex, continuous security protocols and vigilant patrols remain in effect. "The plan is to evacuate the victim to RSUD Timika tomorrow morning for further medical treatment," the police chief concluded. (ay/hn/nm)
