Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Medan’s Special Immigration Office has arrested four Sri Lankan citizens suspected of orchestrating a human-smuggling operation targeting France on Tuesday (9/12/2025) after a month-long intelligence probe.
“There are four suspects we detained, identified as TK, RS, MT, and NS,” said Immigration Chief Uray Avian, as reported by antaranews.com.
Investigators found each suspect played a specific role, from recruiting passengers to collecting funds and preparing logistics. A total of 38 victims were charged USD 5,000 each with the promise of being transported to France. Officials revealed the suspects entered Indonesia as refugees before engaging in the scheme.
The suspects face charges under the Immigration Law, carrying up to 15 years in prison. They are currently detained at Medan Detention Center as the investigation continues.
