Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Merapi released a 2-kilometer pyroclastic flow on Friday evening (21/11/2025), prompting authorities to warn residents living on the slopes of the active volcano straddling Central Java and Yogyakarta.
The eruption occurred at 9.23 pm local time, while Mount Merapi remains on Level III status, signaling continued threat from the pyroclastic flow and lava.
“The pyroclastic flow reached an estimated distance of 2,000 meters. The seismic signal recorded a maximum amplitude of 57 millimeters with a duration of 206 seconds,” the Geological Agency at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in an official statement, as cited by antaranews.com.
The agency urged nearby populations to comply strictly with all hazard recommendations and rely only on government monitoring channels for updated volcanic activity. Residents in high-risk zones have been warned of potential future flows and possible evacuation if activity escalates.
Authorities noted that Mount Merapi’s current condition still allows further pyroclastic avalanches and incandescent lava flows.
