The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported an eruption from Mount Semeru, emitting volcanic ash up to 800 meters high, on Monday (12/2/2024). Mount Semeru Observation Post Officer Yadi Yuliandi stated the eruption happened at 6.02 am with a medium-intensity ash column heading southeast. "The maximum amplitude was 22 millimeters, lasting 131 seconds," he stated. PVMBG advised against activities within a 13-kilometer radius from the eruption center along the Besuk Kobokan and within 500 meters from the riverbank due to potential pyroclastic flow exposure extending up to 17 kilometers from the peak. Furthermore, caution is urged within a five-kilometer radius from Mount Semeru's summit due to projectile stone hazards.
