Inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police has handed over case files of seven suspects involved in smuggling five Chinese people to the East Nusa Tenggara Prosecutor’s Office.
“The suspects have been transferred to the prosecutors,” said NTT Police Head of Public Relations Senior SuperintendentAriasandy on Monday (9/9/2024).
The suspects include six Indonesians, identified as MA (51), RM (40), AB (32), MS (47), JL (43), and BT (29), and one Chinese national, identified as Jiang Xiao Jia (38). The victims are all Chinese nationals, according to antaranews.com
In addition to the suspects, police handed over evidence, including a wooden boat and six passports belonging to the victims.
This case, which started on 10 May 2024, after an investigation by the NTT Police Unit of Human Trafficking was declared ready for prosecution following confirmation by the Prosecutor's Office.
The suspects face charges under the Immigration Law and the Criminal Code related to human trafficking. The case has drawn public attention due to the cross-border nature of the crime.
