Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI) Bali  clarified that misunderstandings about the euthanasia of stray dogs as part of rabies control measures had caused public confusion, with many people thinking it was simply about killing animals.

"Euthanasia is a humane process using approved drugs, not just any substance to end an animal's life. Unfortunately, there are misconceptions, and some have distorted the facts," PDHI Bali Chairman, I Dewa Made Anom, explained on Tuesday (15/10/2024).

Stray dogs that test positive for rabies will only be euthanized after a two-week observation period if they remain unclaimed or unadopted.

According to antaranews.com, Anom called for revisions to local regulations to prevent further misunderstandings.

Despite ongoing efforts, including vaccination and sterilization campaigns, Bali continues to lead in rabies cases, with nine deaths reported this year.

"It's troubling that Bali has been labeled 'Rabies Island' for 15 years. We hope to free Bali from this stigma soon," Anom added.
