inp.polri.go.id - Agam. The West Sumatra Regional Police, along with other govt. officials and medical forces held a mass funeral as a way to pay their last respects to the victims of the disaster.
The Head of West Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Gatot Tri Suryanta says that as of now, the data recorded 253 fatalities in the disaster. Of the number, 222 bodies were identified, while the rest of 31 are still in the process of identification.
“Today we are here to hold the mass funeral of a Palembayan disaster victim, while we ensure that identification process will be held professionally with full respect,” says Gatot on Wednesday (1/7/2026).
Of the total bodies identified, 110 are men and 112 are women. Meanwhile, 31 are still identified, which includes 14 men, 12 women, and five body parts.
The West Sumatra Regional Police Chief emphasized that they, along with all relevant agencies, are continuing to maximize efforts to identify the bodies and provide support to the victims' families.
"We, along with the Indonesian National Military (TNI), local governments, health workers, and volunteers, are working tirelessly to ensure that all victims are identified and given proper burials, and that the bereaved families receive the support they need," he stressed.
