In an ongoing investigation, the East Kalimantan Regional Police have confirmed that there is no apparent political motive behind the threats made against presidential candidate Anies Baswedan on Instagram. The suspect, identified as RA (22) from Sangata, Kutai Timur regency, is currently under investigation. "At the moment, it appears to be spontaneous, but further investigation is still underway," East Kalimantan Police Head of Public Relations Unit, Senior Superintendent Yusuf Sutejo, on Monday (15/1/2024). Commenting on the suspect's surrender, he revealed that it was prompted by panic, fearing the repercussions of his actions going viral. "Yes, (he surrendered) because he was afraid it would go viral," the spokesperson said. He added that investigators are currently conducting tests on the suspect.
