Police Thwarted Illegal PMIs from Smuggled to Malaysia

Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Riau Island Regional Police Marine and Air Directorate secures five illegal Indonesian Immigrant Workers (PMI) from Lombok and arrests the PMI smuggler.

The Head of Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of Marine and Air Unit, Superintendent Isa Imam Syahroni says that his ranks have monitored the human smuggling case from March and thwarted the crime.

“They used a fishing net boat. And after we investigate the case further, we found the house location where they put the illegal PMIs,” said Isa on Saturday (4/27/2024).

Isa says that the house location was in Melia Indah Complex, Karimun, and used as a place for the illegal PMIs to stay. The house used to store the PMI before departing them to Malaysia.

Furthermore, Isa also reveals that from the operation, his party also confiscated a phone, a plane ticket, and Batam-Karimun ticket ships.

For their crimes suspect will be charged with article 81 in conjunction with article 69 in conjunction with article 83 in conjunction with article 68 Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2023 concerning the stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation becomes law
