Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has appointed Indra Sjafri as head coach of the U23 national team for the upcoming 2025 SEA Games in December.
The decision was announced in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (29/9/2025).
“Finally, it was decided that the head coach leading Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games will be Mr. Indra Sjafri,” said PSSI Deputy Chairman Zainuddin Amali, as reported by antaranews.com.
He cited Indra’s success in guiding Indonesia to its first SEA Games gold in 32 years at the 2023 edition as the main reason for his return.
Coach Indra welcomed the role, describing it as a duty to the nation rather than personal ambition. Under his leadership, Indonesia beat Thailand on penalties in 2023 to end a decades-long gold medal drought. Indra has also delivered titles at the AFF U19 (2013) and AFF U22 (2019) levels.
PSSI confirmed Gerard Vanenburg remains under contract as U23 coach but will not lead the squad at the SEA Games.
