Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur. Indonesian anti-corruption watchdog MAKI confirmed fugitive oil corruption suspect Muhammad Riza Chalid is currently in Malaysia and allegedly married a relative of a Malaysian sultan four years ago.
“I have verified that Riza Chalid is in Malaysia and is believed to have married a royal family member from either state J or K,” MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman told antaranews.com in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.
Chalid reportedly resides in Johor. MAKI plans to urge the Attorney General’s Office to issue an official red notice through Interpol, allowing Malaysian police to cooperate in his arrest.
If red notice procedures fail, Boyamin said Indonesia should conduct a trial in absentia to allow asset seizure under money laundering charges.
The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that Chalid missed his first summons on 24 July 2025. Authorities have contacted Malaysia's immigration and police to track him.
