Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. The Immigration Office at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has delayed the departure of 2,238 Indonesians suspected of being involved in human trafficking or human smuggling in 2024.
"Up until August 2024, we have postponed the departure of 2,238 Indonesians who were suspected of attempting to work abroad illegally and were potentially victims of human trafficking," said Bismo Surono, the Head of the Immigration Checkpoint Division at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, on Saturday (21/9/2024).
The immigration authorities continued to strengthen their strategic role in monitoring international crossings to prevent trafficking, as reported by antaranews.com.
According to Bismo, the issue remains a major concern, particularly regarding Indonesians who unknowingly become victims of human trafficking when seeking work abroad.
Through stricter document checks, the immigration office has managed to curb the departure of non-procedural migrant workers. In 2023, the Soekarno Hatta Immigration Office delayed the departure of 6,622 Indonesians attempting to work illegally.
