The visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in Southeast Sulawesi Province was to inspect the iron manufacturing plant and inaugurate the nickel smelter plant and inaugurate the nickel smelter belonging to PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry (VDNI) in Morosi District, Konawe Regency and Ladongi Dam in East Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The construction of the PT VDNI smelter is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) stipulated through Presidential Regulation Number 109 of 2020 concerning the Third Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 3 of 2016 concerning Acceleration of Implementation of National Strategic Projects. In the attachment to the presidential regulation, the Konawe Industrial Estate (an investment by PT VDNI) is a national strategic project number 98. Ladongi Dam is a rock-fill type dam with clay soil built by the state-owned contractor PT. Hutama Karya (Persero) cooperates with a national private contractor, PT Bumi Karsa (KSO). Later, the water stored in the Ladongi Dam will irrigate rice fields with irrigation services covering an area of 3,604 ha continuously in the East Kolaka Regency. In addition, it will also function as a flood controller in the downstream area of Singai Ladongi with the ability to withstand an overflow of 132.25 cubic feet per second. In addition to utilization in the agricultural sector and flood disaster control, the Ladongi Dam will also be a source of 0.12 cubic per second of raw water and a potential source of electricity generation of 1.3 MegaWatt.
