inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Economist from the Islamic University of North Sumatra (Sumut), Gunawan Benjamin, views the holding of the XXI National Sports Week (PON) will be able to improve the economy of the surrounding community in the tourism sector.

“I estimate that at least the visit from outside to North Sumatra would be 10,000 for this year’s PON,” says Gunawan on Wednesday (8/28/2024).

According to him, the involvement of 6,281 people, support of 3,140 officials, tourists, and other guests would be its own attraction. As long as they spend their time in North Sumatra, there will be many guests  who will search for tourist destinations in Medan City.

“In this opportunity, it is best we promote tourist destinations of each region. If necessary, we accommodate them with transportation to enjoy the tourism in North Sumatra,” explains Gunawan.

The impact of this promotion, says Gunawan, will push hotel occupancy rates, shopping activities, and more money circulation. Then, there will be positivism in the improvement of all business sectors.
