Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that all Indonesian military (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (INP) personnel deployed to the UN peacekeeping mission, MONUSCO, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are safe and in good health.
"All personnel are safe and healthy," said Rolliansyah Soemirat, the Ministry’s spokesperson, in a statement on Tuesday (28/1/2025).
Currently, Indonesia has 1,051 personnel from the TNI and INP in MONUSCO. The government continues to closely monitor the situation in DRC with deep concern.
"We are carefully observing the developments on the ground," Soemirat added, as quoted by antaranew.com.
Clashes erupted in the DRC, with M23 rebels blocking airspace over Goma, accusing coalition forces of transporting bombs. The M23 group, allegedly supported by Rwanda, has intensified its attacks in eastern DRC, capturing key cities and moving toward Goma, the capital of North Kivu Province.
UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to avoid further humanitarian crises.
