inp.polri.go.id - Manokwari. The West Papua Regional Police says the search of the former Criminal Investigation Unit of Teluk Bintuni Sub-regional Police, First Police Inspector Tomi Samuel Marbun, will resume.

Tomi went missing during the operation to arrest members of an armed criminal group (KKB), where he was swept by the current when trying to cross Rawara River.

The Head of West Papua Regional Police Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Ongky Isgunawan says that his party has coordinated with the Indonesian National Police (INP) HQ to resume the third phase of the search.

“The third phase of our search will possibly begin next week,” says Ongky on Tuesday (3/18/2025).

In his statement, the operation in question was one of three recommendations from Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives to the West Papua Regional Police in a hearing (RDP) on March 17, 2025.

In searching Tomi, the police will have to prepare various equipment and documents such as a permit to use a helicopter belonging to the Cartenz Peace Task Force.

According to him, the search operation for Tomi will likely involve personnel from the ranks of the Indonesian Army, and Teluk Bintuni Search and Rescue Agency.

The police also welcomed family members, civil society organizations, and journalists who wanted to join the humanitarian mission to search for Iptu Tomi.

"In the first and second searches, we only involved several rescue  personnel and it is not a Search and Rescue Operation as we are searching Tomi in a red zone," he said.
