Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) has announced that the Jakarta-Bandung "Whoosh" high-speed train has served a total of 1,028,216 passengers since its inauguration on 17 October this year.
KCIC President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi said the figure showed the people's high demand for modern mass transport that offers both efficient travel time and a good level of comfort.
"Reaching one million passengers in just two months proves the high demand for modern and reliable public transport in Indonesia," he said in a written statement on Tuesday (26/12/2023).
He noted that the express train has been well received by the public, as evidenced by the average passenger occupancy rate of 90 per cent of the total seats available on each train with the highest number of passengers recorded in a single day at 21,500.
Based on a survey, Dwiyana said that 48 per cent of Whoosh passengers used private cars to travel between the two cities before the high-speed train was introduced, indicating that the train has been successful in helping the government encourage people to switch to mass transport.
"The availability of proper facilities and efficient services has encouraged more people to opt for public transport such as Whoosh, thereby reducing their dependence on private cars," he explained.
Dwiyana also said that the Whoosh high-speed train has been running smoothly since its inception, with no accidents reported so far.
He added that the KCIC has increased the number of Whoosh trips from 40 to 48 per day to accommodate an increase in people's mobility during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"This measure is aimed at anticipating the increase in the number of passengers during the year-end holidays," Dwiyana said.
