inp.polri.go.id -  Until now, the search for 17 crew members of a cargo ship from Indonesia (WNI) that sank in the waters west of Taiwan is still being carried out. Five other people were rescued. The Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said the ship initially had an accident due to bad weather the day before it sank, on October 30. At that time three crew members were successfully evacuated by helicopter. "On October 31, to be exact at around 15:00 local time, the ship suffered an engine failure and then sank due to a big wave about 14 nautical miles from Taiwan's Changhua Coastline," Judha explained in an online press conference, Thursday (11/3/22). He said that when it sank there were 17 crew members on board. Five of them have been evacuated while 12 others are still in the search and rescue process. "Today the search continues eastward from the location of the sinking of the ship in accordance with the directions. We at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working with relevant ministries/agencies as well as contacting families in Indonesia," he explained as quoted by CNNIndonesia.com. So far, the SAR team has deployed three large ships, eight small ships, and military drones to conduct the search.
