Inp.polri.go.id - Cianjur. Local authorities have evacuated 209 residents from Wargasari Village in Kadupandak District, Cianjur Regency, West Java, following widespread soil creep by heavy rains. The disaster has damaged 63 homes and cut off inter-village roads.
“The soil creep began on Friday after torrential rains. By Saturday evening, the situation worsened, and more houses were affected, prompting us to evacuate residents to shelters near the Wargasari Village office,” said Kadupandak Sub District Secretary Mumuh Parhamubin on Sunday (24/11/2024).
Among the damages, five two-story houses collapsed on Sunday morning. Evacuated residents, originally seeking refuge with relatives, were relocated to shelters as heavy rains persisted for over two hours that afternoon.
Relief efforts are underway, with large tents set up for temporary housing and emergency response units, including BPBD and the Social Services Agency, providing supplies and a public kitchen.
“We’ve coordinated with health services to establish a medical post at the evacuation site,” Mumuh added, as quoted by antaranews.com..
Soil creep has also severed key inter-village roads, leaving only motorbike access in some areas. Officials urged local residents in high-risk zones to remain alert and evacuate promptly at signs of danger.
