Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur.  Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said  on Tuesday (12/3/2024) that 3,797 Indonesian citizens are currently undergoing detention in Malaysian immigration depots. It is the second largest  number of foreign nationals currently detained in Malaysian immigration depots, after Myanmar, totaling 4,541 individuals, as reported by antaranews.com According to Minister Saifuddin, the detainees are held in immigration depots for various reasons, including completing prison sentences for offenses and being sentenced by Malaysian courts. Regarding the deportation process, he said that the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) must coordinate with foreign embassy officials for travel documents. "The faster these documents are issued, the sooner foreign nationals in immigration depots will be sent home," Minister Saifuddin said. Foreign nationals are detained in the Malaysian immigration depots for violating immigration regulations or passport issues such as overstaying, misuse of passes (visas), or having no documents at all. "We place them inside the depots for investigation, then hand them over to the Attorney General's Office before they are charged or released. While the process is ongoing, they are kept in immigration depots," he said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
