Communications and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said that his ministry had blocked access to more than 800,000 online gambling content from July to December 2023, antaranews.com reported. "This achievement is equivalent to the accumulation of (efforts focused on) blocking online gambling content over the past five years," he said on Tuesday (2/1/2024). The ministry blocked access to 596,348 content on websites and IP addresses, 173,134 on meta platforms, 29,257 on file-sharing platforms, 5,993 on Google and YouTube platforms, 367 on X, 170 on Telegram, 15 on TikTok, eight on the App Store and one on SnackVideo. In addition to online gambling content, the ministry had blocked more than five thousand bank and e-wallet accounts suspected of being used for online gambling activities. Minister Budi Arie saidd that the ministry has been working with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to block these bank accounts. The minister also issued a stern warning to technology giant Meta because it hosts a lot of online gambling content on its platforms. "This warning requires Meta to immediately improve its handling of content and advertising with online gambling content on the platforms it manages within 24 hours," he asserted. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
