AIS Forum Claims to be the Driving Force for Blue Economy

Inp.polri.go.id – Bali. The Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum Summit has become a joint momentum to build world blue economy. The blue economy will be the driving, recovery, and economic transformation with the basis of environmental sustainability. Such was said by the Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Odo Manuhutu during media gathering in Nusa Dua, Bali on Sunday (10/8/2023) night. “The benefit of this forum won’t be instant, but for the next 10 or 15 years, I believe this forum will give a huge impact for the world, including Indonesia,” he says. To reach a sustainable maritime in the future, archipelagic and island states needs to presents more nature-based genius and innovative solutions. He hopes that the AIS Forum Summit could strengthen a solid collaboration in addressing multi-faceted challenges in the region. He adds that the main challenges that AIS would face are climate change mitigation and adaptation, blue economy development, marine plastic waste handling, and good maritime governance. On the other hand, Director General of Public Information and Communication, Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemkominfo) Usman Kansong adds that archipelagic and island states country need to solidify their unity in facing world problems, particularly climate changes. “We want to solidify our unity in recovering our world environment while we develop blue economy. We believe the blue economy would drive the economy into a blue and sustainable economy,” he said. Conforming the statement of Usman Kansong, Assistant Deputy for Delimitation of Maritime Zones and Border Areas, Sora Lokita states that AIS Forum Summit would be the awareness pillar for all community elements. She also believes that the stakeholders has concrete solutions in facing climate change issues that impacts the maritime sectors. “We emphasized on the main principle of interdependence, mutual aid, and mutual benefit. This was inspired by the gotong-royong concept that binds the community into one as the archipelagic and island states,” she explained. (ad/ta/pr/nm)
