AMMTC Strengthens Cooperation in Enforcement of Human Trafficking Cases: Chief of INP

The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP), Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that 900 suspects in the crime of human trafficking (TPPO) throughout Indonesia have been detained. The prosecution of hundreds of suspects was carried out after President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered strict action and fulfillment of the rights of Indonesian migrant workers. "Some time ago, the President conveyed the problem of TPPO (human trafficking) and we have followed up by taking various law enforcement steps. As of today, we have secured nearly 900 suspects," said the Chief of INP after reviewing the readiness of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) 17th in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Saturday (19/8/23). According to the Chief of INP, at the AMMTC event, there will be 10 issues of transnational crime discussed, including TPPO. According to General Sigit, in this international event the momentum of cooperation in the prosecution of transnational crimes, one of which is TPPO, is important to carry out. "In AMMTC, INP has the leadership. Once every ten years to get this chairmanship. We use this to carry out cooperation with countries or the police in ASEAN," said General Sigit. For information, the 17th AMMTC will be opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and directly led by the National Police Chief General Sigit as Chair of the 2023 AMMTC. This activity will be held on 20-23 August 2023. As many as 10 ministers from friendly countries in the ASEAN region will take part in AMMTC activities. Upon arrival, an AMMTC Welcome Cocktail and Toast will be carried out on board the Phinisi Lako Sae. (ay/pr/nm)
