Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police said that the suspects involved in the robbery of firearms from the Indonesian National Police (INP)'s Airport Security Unit (KP3) in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, has been hiding in Mundidok Village, Gome District, Puncak Regency. Mundidok Village is known as the based of an Armed Criminal Group (KKB). "After robbing the firearms held by the police officers, the suspects fled to Mundidok Village," said Chief of the Papua Police Public Relations Unit, Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Prabowo, in Jayapura on Thursday (1/2/2024). He explained that the incident began when the Head of the KP3 Air Police Post, Second Inspector Slamet M. Korisano, along with two other personnel, was delivering a motorcycle belonging to the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD) from Ilaga Airport to the market complex using a truck. When they arrived at the scene, some unidentified men attacked them, opened the truck's door, and swiftly seized the firearms belonging to the police. One of the members, Second Brigadier Paulus Ongirwalu, attempted to restrain the suspect, who managed to escape with the seized firearm. "A few moments later, there was an exchange of gunfire as the joint military and police security forces tried to arrest the suspect," Benny said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
