Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. General Maruli Simanjuntak, the Army Chief of Staff, has set a goal to establish 1,600 new water access points this year, bringing the total to 5,000 nationwide.
“We aim to complete around 1,600 new points this year, reaching a total of 5,000,” he said after the Army leadership meeting in Jakarta on Monday (3/2/2025).
So far, 3,400 water points have been built across Indonesia to provide clean water to underserved areas. The initiative started when Commander Maruli was a regional commander, according to antaranews.com.
He emphasized that the achievement was due to not just the Army's efforts, but also private sector support through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.
Commander Maruli is optimistic that with continued CSR collaboration, the 2025 target will be met.
He expected these water points will improve access to clean water and help support agriculture, contributing to national food security.
"This could eventually become a government-backed program," Commander Maruli added.
