Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. PT Bank Mandiri Tbk (BMRI) revealed that its digital infrastructure faces up to one million cyberattack attempts daily, according to the Vice President of Digital Retail Banking at Bank Mandiri, Harry Sofri Putranda, on Thursday (19/9/2024).
To tackle these threats, the bank has formed a special "digital security team" of 200 members since 2021.
"They monitor and respond to cyberattacks daily. We've allocated 15% of our budget to strengthen cybersecurity through IT investments," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Harry also highlighted the success of their digital platform, Livin by Mandiri, which allows customers to open bank accounts within 15 minutes, a process that previously took days.
Senior economist Fithra Faisal Hastiadi noted that digital banking has significantly boosted productivity, with the sector contributing Rp 1,000 trillion. By 2030, it’s expected to reach Rp 4,500 trillion.
However, he stressed the need to improve financial literacy, especially as more people fall into debt traps with online loans.
