Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Navy, in cooperation with the Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and the police, intercepted two major drug smuggling attempts in Indonesia’s outer waters this week.
Vice Admiral Denih Hendrata, the Commander of the Navy Fleet, announced on Thursday (19/9/2024) that patrols seized 84.75 kilograms of cocaine near Berhala Island, North Sumatra, and 1.65 kilograms of methamphetamine near Sebatik Island, North Kalimantan. A courier attempting to transport the meth using a speedboat was also arrested.
“We acted on intelligence from multiple agencies, allowing us to stop the narcotics before they could be distributed,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The cocaine was discovered floating in the sea, a method commonly used by smugglers to drop drugs for later retrieval. The meth was seized during a routine patrol based on intelligence in Sebatik’s waters, where the courier was caught. These operations were part of a broader effort to curb drug trafficking in Indonesia’s border regions.
