Batik Indonesia Foundation Preserves Indonesian Culture Heritage

During the event of Bangga Berbatik held on October 2-6, 2024, Chairperson of Batik Indonesia Foundation (YBI), Gita Pratama Kartasasmita, says the event becomes a way for YBI to uphold the identity of batik and as a symbol of Indonesian cultural heritage solidarity that no other state has.

She says that batik now can be used for any occasion and any event, not only for formal activities, but also informal activities.

“If you want to go to the beach, or restaurant, or cafe, and hang out with your friends or colleagues, you can wear batik. Batik has many colors or motives that fits your activities,” Gita says on Wednesday (10/2/2024).

In her statement, currently her foundation targets gen Z as the generation full of creativity. She believes that gen Z prefers batik that has color and motive that are fluid and not rigid.

Gita Pratama Kartasasmita, believes that batik users will continue to have its fans in every generation. Young people, according to Gita, have a role in preserving the nation's cultural heritage such as batik.

This year, YBI chose Gedog Tuban batik as the icon of 2024 National Batik Day. The reason is, batik from Tuban, East Java is threatened with extinction.

On the other hand, the event of Bangga Berbatik, supported by the The Directorate General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (Ditjen IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry presented a number of events. Among them are music events, educational exhibitions, fashion shows, sociopreneur talk shows and SME bazaars.
