inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Head of Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Marthinus Hukom says the prevalence of drug misuse in Indonesia has reached 3.3 million lives or 1.73 percent of the total Indonesian population in 2023.

Marthinus says there is one research that shows the average of drug users are those within their productive years, which is 15-30 years of age.

“Then there are also reasons why they are using drugs, and mostly because they were invited by their close circles, such as friends,” said Marthinus.

In suppressing the drug prevalence number, BNN tries to build and strengthen family resilience which they consider as the main defense against drug abuse.

Other than strengthening the resilience in social construct, BNN also enforcing the defense against drug abuse in educational institutions.

“We are working together with the Education Ministry and related stakeholders such as the regional government and its ranks,” Marthinus explains.

Marthinus invites all parties to collectively combat drug abuse and its flow for the better of the country.

“Let us build a healthy environment where it is free from drugs by improving our awareness on drugs,” concludes Marthinus.
