The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has confiscated 110 kilograms of crystal meth (locally known as "sabu") from six suspects in two different locations, Aceh and West Kalimantan, revealed the Head of BNN Commissioner General Petrus Reinhard Golose during a press conference at his office on Tuesday (18/7/23). "I extend my gratitude to the Eradication Deputy and his team for uncovering this remarkable piece of evidence, a total of 110.400 grams from six suspects in two different locations," he said. He explained that the crystal meth, which originated from Myanmar, was produced in a super laboratory, with excellent packaging and quality. "We firmly believe that this crystal meth comes from a super laboratory, not just a simple kitchen or clandestine laboratory. With this level of quality and packaging, it clearly indicates transnational organized crime, which we must jointly confront," he said. The first case occurred in the coastal area of Laweung in Muara Tiga, Pidie Regency, Aceh. A joint team consisting of Aceh Customs and Exercise, BNN Aceh, and BNN Pidie conducted a nearly two-week search and successfully arrested three suspects on Monday, June 19, 2023. The three suspects with initials HE, R, and MF were caught smuggling the crystal meth from Langkawi Waters, Malaysia, to Indonesian waters via the coast of Laweung, Aceh, using a type of boat known as "oskadon." "The suspects confessed to handing over the evidence to three other men with initials BUL (DPO), RAH (DPO), and BIR (DPO) at the edge of Pantai Laweung," he said, The pursuit continued until Tuesday, June 20, 2023 with the joint team confiscated four sacks of crystal meth weighing 105.213 grams. In Kalimantan, BNN uncovered yet another smuggling operation in Sanggau, West Kalimantan. A total of 5.187 grams of crystal meth, concealed in the car's left and right doors was confiscated and three suspects identified as HAR, MWA, and JOH were arrested. "The BNN team conducted a search in the suspects' boarding house located at MT. Haryono Street in Akcaya, South Pontianak, West Kalimantan. During the search, several mobile phones were confiscated as evidence of conversations related to transactions conducted by the three suspects," he explained. The suspects are subject to Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) and Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, which carries a maximum penalty of the death sentence or life imprisonment.
