The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) has distributed a total of 5,228 kg of aid and equipment as part of emergency efforts to handle drought and extreme cold weather disasters in Central Papua. Abdul Muhari, the Head of BNPB's Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disaster Management, stated that the 5.228 kg of aid consists of 3.844 kg sent via Sinak Airport and 1,384 kg sent via Agandugume Airport. "This logistic support will remain ongoing throughout the emergency response period for the drought disaster in Puncak District, Central Papua Province," he said on Monday (7/8/23). He explained that the aid flown via Sinak Airport includes 380 packages of basic necessities, 175 mattresses, 100 blankets, seven generator units, and 60 roll-up tents. Meanwhile, the aid sent via Agandugume Airport includes 135 packages of basic necessities and 300 mattresses. "BNPB is also actively monitoring the distribution to ensure it reaches those in need," he said. Additionally, BNPB has conducted initial assessment of suitable location for establishing a logistics warehouse in the vicinity of Agandugume Airport. "This initial assessment was a collaborative effort between BNPB, with the Regional Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BPBD), and community representatives for a joint decision," he said. The plan for constructing a logistics warehouse was previously mentioned by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy during the delivery of aid via Sinak Airport on Thursday, August 3rd. This initiative aims to safeguard food reserves for the Puncak District community in Central Papua against future instances of severe weather. (ndt/hn/nm)
