Inp.polri.go.id - Central Papua Regional Police Chief Brigadier General Alfred Papare has called on supporters of rival candidates in Puncak Jaya’s regional election to stop violent clashes, warning that further conflict could lead to more casualties and property damage.

Speaking separately with both groups in Mulia on Saturday (15/2/2025), he stressed the need for peace.

"This is my second visit to Mulia because both sides resumed attacks, resulting in deaths and destruction. Let’s work together to restore order in Puncak Jaya so daily life can return to normal," Chief Alfred said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

One group has pledged to refrain from further violence, and the police chief urged the opposing supporters to do the same.

Two clashes, on 5 and 12 February 20252, left two people dead, 163 injured, and 55 homes burned. The 2024 regional election in Puncak Jaya features two candidate pairs: Yuni Wonda-Mus Kogoya and Miren Kogoya-Wendi.
