inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Coordinating Minister for Economy Airlangga Hartarto says that the Islamic economics and finance play a strategic role in encouraging sustainable economic growth amidst increasingly complex global challenges.

"The theme raised at ISEF is very relevant for us, where we are trying to accelerate the economy amidst increasingly complex global challenges. In our eyes, sharia economics and finance have a strategic role in encouraging sustainable growth," said the Coordinating Minister at the opening of the 2024 Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) on Wednesday (10/30/2024).

Bank Indonesia (BI) again held ISEF on October 30th to November 3rd, 2024 at JCC Senayan Jakarta, which carries the theme of “Synergy of Sharia Economy and Finance in Strengthening Resilience and Sustainable Economic Growth”.

According to Airlangga, the development of sharia economy and finance in Indonesia is very promising because Indonesia is a country with the biggest Muslim population of 87 percent.

Indonesia's sharia economy is ranked third globally after Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, based on the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) 2023 report.

"Our President asks for the investment sector of sharia finance, halal food and beverages, fashion, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and tourism to be Muslim-friendly," said the Coordinating Minister.

In addition, he said that the contribution of sharia to the gross domestic product (GDP) reached 48.71 percent, and the sharia economy also supports the empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), the government is targeting a golden Indonesia with a strong foundation for economic growth.

For that, continued the Coordinating Minister Airlangga, the vision of developing productive sectors such as sharia and halal products is very important.

In order to support the development of a broader sharia economy and finance, he said that sharia-based People's Business Credit also continues to be improved, and more inclusive synergy and ecosystems are also needed.
