inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan guarantees that the national food supply is safe, including for the Christmas-New Year holiday season, amidst extreme weather conditions.

"This year we predict that the food stocks will be better than last year, including in fisheries, agriculture, and the salt production sector. Therefore we dare to say that we may not have to import the rice next year as our production will reach 32 million tons. Next year we will also not import consumption salt because we have the stock. So don't worry, the stock is all good," said Zulkifli Hasan on Tuesday (12/10/2024).

He said that the government will also not import sugar for consumption next year considering that the stock is sufficient at around 1.4 million tons with an estimated production of 2.6 million tons.

Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister for Food stated that Indonesia will no longer import salt, sugar, rice and corn for animal feed in 2025.

According to the Coordinating Minister for Food, the government is targeting domestic sugar production of 2.6 million tons. The production of consumption sugar will also be boosted by developing new seeds, plantation management and establishing cooperation with SMEs.

For salt, the government is targeting production to reach 2.25 million tons, in order to meet domestic needs of 1.76 million tons in 2025.

In terms of corn production for animal feed, it is targeted to reach 16.68 million tons, while domestic corn needs are around 13 million tons.
