inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, reviewed several vital locations for the preparation of 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holiday season. One of the locations are the routes towards the Merak-Bakauheni ports. The visit was conducted to ensure the readiness of facilities, infrastructure, and safety aspects.
During his inspection, he said that the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays will take place when rain in some parts of Indonesia are at its most extreme. This is as reported by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
"The weak La Nina phenomenon causes the intensity of rain to be estimated to increase by 20% compared to normal conditions,” he said on Monday (12/9/2024).
He considered the Merak-Bakauheni port to be one of the crucial points that has the potential for congestion. The movement of ferry ships is estimated at 29.83 percent.
"We continue to inspect facilities and increase supervision. The Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD), involving the Directorate of River, Lake, and Ferry Transportation (TSDP), has conducted a ramp check of ferry vessels from October 10th to November 15th, 2024," he said.
He then reminded stakeholders in the ferry sector to anticipate transportation services affected by extreme weather.
In addition, he also instructed stakeholders to coordinate with their respective BMKG regions to prepare themselves for the weather forecast conditions.
