inp.polri.go.id -Jakarta. The National Police (Polri) revealed the involvement of Doctor Sunardi in the terrorist organization. Before being shot dead by Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Counter-terrorism, Doctor Sunardi was an important figure in the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorist network.
The Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of Polri’s Public Relations Division (Divisi Humas), Brigadier General Dr. Ahmad Ramadhan, S.H., M.H., M.Sc., said that, first, Sunardi was “a member of Jamaah Islamia (JI),” Jakarta, Friday (11/3/22).
Sunardi was known had served as Amir Khidmat, became Deputy of Da'wah and Information, and later, he became an advisor to the Amirs of JI.
Sunardi also plays a role in being in charge of the Hilal Ahmar Society Indonesia (HASI), a foundation or banned organization affiliated with the JI network. Its job is to recruit, fund, and facilitate the journey of FTF (Foreign Terrorist Fighter) followers to Syria.
“Based on the 2015 Central Jakarta District Court's stipulation, HASI is a prohibited organization," Karo Penmas told the reporters.
According to him, Doctor Sunardi had been named a suspect before he was shot dead during an arrest in Sukoharjo, Central Java.
Based on a statement from Divisi Humas Polri, the minutes of arresting a terrorist suspect were like an action film. That is because when he was about to be arrested, Doctor Sunardi was driving a four-wheeled vehicle with a double cabin. When he found out that he was about to be arrested, Sunardi tried to run away and fought back using his vehicle by hitting the officers who were blocking him.
The arrest of Doctor Sunardi was carried out on Wednesday, March 9 at approximately 21.15 WIB, on Jalan Bekonang, Sukoharjo. Because he was trying to escape, the Densus 88 personnel immediately climbed into the suspect's vehicle. At that time, the suspect tried to bring down the Densus personnel who was behind the car by moving the vehicle to the right and left wildly. Seeing the retaliation from the suspect, Densus 88 officers issued a warning. However, because the suspect ignored him, members of the Densus forcefully had to shoot the suspect before he cause even further damage.
