Domestic Violence Case Remains to be a Huge Issue in Indonesia: Women National Commission Says

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Referring to the data conveyed by the National Commission on Women, the Vice Chairperson of Women National Commission Olivia Chadidjah Salampessy says that domestic violence remains to be a huge issue in Indonesia.

In her statement, she reveals that the data shows  515,466 domestic violence have been recorded in the past 20 years, with 94 percent of it being domestic violence against women.

According to her, the massive number of domestic violence cases in Indonesia shows that the victims did not receive proper protection.

“So, from the 94 percent of the domestic violence that happened here, the victims are women,” quote Olivia on Wednesday (8/28/2024).

In light of this case, she underscores the importance of education and literacy, more importantly on Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (PKDRT).

She also invites the public, particularly the domestic violence victims, to not shy away from reporting the case to the police, public service institution, or digital platforms such as Sapa 129.
